The British Wildlife Photography Awards were established in 2009. The key aims of the Awards are to:

Recognise the talents of photographers practicing in the UK, while at the same time highlight the great wealth and diversity of Britain’s natural history.
Celebrate British wildlife, in all its beauty and diversity, through a collection of inspirational photographs.
Showcase the very best of our nature photography to a wide audience and engage all ages with evocative and powerful imagery.
Encourage discovery, exploration, conservation and enjoyment of our natural heritage.
Raise awareness about British biodiversity, species and habitats.

Entries must have been taken in the United Kingdom of Great Britain Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

Images can be of native or migrant wild species. Also non-indigenous wild species that reside permanently in the UK. British wildlife subjects photographed in a studio setting or a captive environment are eligible provided this information is supplied when submitting images. Exotic wildlife photographed in British zoos, safari parks or similar locations, and domestic pets are not eligible.

There is no plan envisaged by BWPA, or any of its partners or sponsors, to create a general commercial library of the images entered into this competition.

Entries will be possible continuously until the 30th of October (GMT 23:59:59). To enter the competition you have to register as a photographer so you can upload your pictures to category of disasters. Our experts are going to decide which picture’s quality and topic is good enough. The chosen photos will be activated within 24 hours. Each activated picture on wildstockphoto.com (in topic of disasters) will be taking part in the competition.

Pictures that can be nominated
In this competition we are only interested in pictures of disasters. Please upload your pictures to category of disasters! In the ‘tags’ please note if your picture is: man-made, or natural disaster. You can also write in climate change, global warming etc. (So what comes into your mind.) After uploading your photos, you can do this.
People cannot be recognizable on your photos. (if there’s any)
You also have to give a title to every picture of yours, and tag them in English! This will help a lot for your picture to be activated. (We activate within 24 hours, you have 10 hours to do this)
Please do not upload pictures with frame or your signature.
The minimum size you can upload is 1500×1500 pixels. You can only upload pictures in JPEG format. Please upload the largest size you have (but not bigger than 20 mb.)
You acknowledge that the judges can decide about whether your picture is going to be activated or not. You also acknowledge that the title, tags or description that you gave your picture can be modified by one of our collages.

A Duna fotókiállítás a World Press Photo kisérő kiállításaként Budapesten, a Néprajzi Múzeumban kerül bemutatásra. Megnyitó 2011. szeptember 29, zárónap október 30.

Animal Portraits

We are looking for an image that captures the character or spirit of the subject in an imaginative way. We want to be able to get a sense of the animal’s “personality” from the photograph. All species will be considered.
Animal Behaviour

Entries can show unusual, interesting, amusing or remarkable behaviour being exhibited, or depict something familiar in a new light. Show the judges something they don’t know or haven’t seen before, or invite them to look again at what they thought they already knew.
Urban Wildlife

Wherever we live, wildlife can be found alongside us in our towns and cities. We are looking for an original image that shows wild animals or plants within an urban or predominantly man-made environment.
Hidden Britain

Reveal to us the secret universe that is life on a small scale – a life that is all around us but rarely seen. This category is for invertebrate species only. Category sponsored by Buglife.
Coast and Marine

We are looking for an imaginative photograph that reveals the nature or behaviour of marine wildlife, or creates a sense of place or occasion. Marine and maritime species near the sea, underwater, at the sea shore and coastal zone only will be considered. Category sponsored by WWF.
Wildlife in my Backyard

Gardens represent a vital habitat for some of our most threatened species. Whether it is common or rare, we want to see stunning photos of wildlife in your garden, back yard, balcony, or any space where you, your friends or family do something to encourage nature. Category sponsored by the Countryside Council for Wales.
Habitat

We are looking for an imaginative and original image that powerfully portrays the importance of the environment and ecosystems that sustain the wildlife within them. This includes animals, plants and the relationships between them; for example a butterfly feeding on nectar or rooks roosting in a tree. Category sponsored by Countryside Jobs Service.
Living Landscape: Connectivity

Category sponsored by The Wildlife Trusts. Being connected to the natural world is great for our health, our happiness and for the future. All are inextricably linked. And so The Wildlife Trusts are working on a recovery plan for nature. It’s their vision to create a resilient environment; one rich in wildlife and great for people. What they call ‘A Living Landscape’.

This category is purposefully open to interpretation to encourage creativity and fresh and imaginative responses. Connectivity might be physical, sensory, seasonal or otherwise. We are keen to see how this category captures the imagination and how connectivity within the UK landscape is defined. Positive images illustrating how habitats, species, communities and individuals are all connected, and interconnect, within our natural environment, both in rural and urban settings, are encouraged. Whether images capture an imaginative or purely narrative approach; are simple or complex, the winning image will be breath-taking, mesmerising and powerful.

Some typical (and not exclusive) examples:

* Bee species pollinating crops directly links wildlife with the economy
* Salt marshes acting as a buffer between land and seas
* Hedgerows play a part in keeping the countryside ‘stitched’ together
* Estuaries are the connection for freshwater species with marine life

British Seasons

For this category we are looking for a stunning portfolio of images. The portfolio needs to portray British wildlife at its very best in each of the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, or a portfolio of up to four from just one season. Each image needs to capture the essence of each season together with the wildlife subject, from any British location. The portfolio must work together as a set, themes are also encouraged. Each portfolio can either be four seasons or a single season. Category sponsored by RSPB.
Documentary Series

The documentary award can be a sequence of images of any British wildlife, conservation or environmental issue. The judges will be looking for innovation in story telling, within a portfolio of up to six images.
Wildlife on Video

The judges will be looking for the most inspirational and dynamic sequence (up to a minute) which clearly illustrates the unique power of video as a medium for capturing British wildlife. Any aspect of British wildlife will be considered. Category sponsored by Canon.

Some typical (and not exclusive) examples of short films:

* Creating a memorable portrait of a British wildlife species
* Highlighting a specific conservation issue related to British wildlife

Contest Rules

1. Entrants are limited to three (3) entries per category.
2. Each entry must have a completed registration form attached.
3. Entries must be received by the Mississippi Wildlife Federation no later than June 1, 2011.
4. No submission may be manipulated prior to entry (adding or removing objects that were not there when the photograph was taken, no special effects). Cropping is allowed.

Instructions

* Submit unmatted, unframed photograph as an 8X10 only. This rule applies to digital, film and slide photographs. Photo must be printed on a good quality photo paper.
* Attach completed registration form on back of each entry.
* Attach envelope in which negative is enclosed on back of each entry with your name and negative number printed on the envelope. If negative strip contains the negative of more than one entry, indicate the correct negative number on the envelope. If you submit a CD instead of negatives, make sure the JPEG image is 300 DPI and sized to an 8×10 for enlargement purposes. All photographs submitted may be placed on one CD. Slides are also accepted but photographs must be printed for judging purposes.
* Enclose $10.00 entry fee and mail to the Mississippi Wildlife Federation, 517 Cobblestone Court, Suite 2, Madison, MS 39110 no later than June 1, 2011. This fee is $10.00 per person NOT per picture entered.

Prize

The first place photograph in each category and age group will be enlarged courtesy of Digital Imaging Group , LLC (601/939-2008) to an 8X10 for display during the Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza scheduled August 5-7, 2011 at the Trade Mart in Jackson, MS. These photographs will also be displayed on our website, www.mswildlife.org. From these finalists one will be picked as the Best Overall Photograph in both the Adult and Youth Divisions and awarded a $300 gift certificate each. New is the Judges Special Recognition Award, which may or may not be awarded annually. If awarded, the winner receives a $100 gift certificate. The winning photographs will also be published in MWF’s magazine, Mississippi Wildlife (possible cover) and other MWF publications. The overall winner in each division will be announced on stage at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011. Pictures, negatives, slides and/or CDs will not be returned unless specified on the registration form. Finalists’ enlarged photographs may be used by MWF as display material for educational programs. Appropriate credit will be given to photographers.

The region of New Guinea is limited to the west by the Wallace Line (the bio-geographical line extending between Bali and Lombok northward through the Makassar Strait between Borneo and Sulawesi). To the east the New Guinea region includes the Bismarck and Solomon Archipelagos and islands of the South West Pacific.

Entries in all sections are invited from photographers who use either digital or film cameras. Judges will consider the photographic technique plus the aesthetic, artistic and unique quality of all images when making their selections.
There are ten categories in the competition. Black and white images may only be entered in the Black & White category or the Junior category.

Categories

Animal Behaviour - the subject(s) must be engaged in natural activity.

Animal Portrait – the subject must be photographed close up, occupying at least 30% of the frame.

Botanical – this may be a portrait or habitat shot.

Underwater – this may be a portrait or habitat shot.

Wilderness – the landscape or seascape must have minimal evidence of human interference.

Threatened Species - the subject(s) may be photographed in any of the following ways: in portrait, engaged in natural activity, or in its natural habitat. All entries in this category (flora or fauna) must be verified by an official reference, valid for any of the previous five years prior to the date of close of entries. This can be obtained from the country’s state or federal government agency concerned with verifying the subject’s threatened, rare, vulnerable or endangered status.

Black & White - the subject(s) must be chosen that would qualify for any of the first six categories. This category includes all monochrome photography including sepia-toned and infrared photographs.

Interpretive – the subject(s) must be chosen that would qualify for categories 1 to 6. This category is designed for those photographers who wish to experiment graphically with their images.

Our Impact – the image must depict human impact on the natural environment, be it terrestrial, marine or atmospheric. This impact may be negative or positive. The choice of subjects is broad, including any subject that would qualify for categories 1 to 6, or may extend beyond these to subjects relating to pollution and climate change.

Junior – the entrant must be under 18 years of age at the date of close of entries. Entries must fit the criteria of any of the other nine categories. Junior photographers are welcome to enter in any of the other nine categories instead of the Junior category.

Up to four images may be entered in each of the ten categories. The judges will choose a winner and runner-up for each category. Entries not placed but of a particularly high standard will form the basis of the subsequent exhibition.

A prize will also be awarded to the photographer who enters the best portfolio of six or more entries.

The overall winner of the competition will be the photographer of the image judged the best of all images entered and will be named ANZANG Nature Photography Overall Winner.

• The ANZANG Nature Photography Overall Winner receives AU$5000 plus a certificate.
• A prize of AU$1000 plus a certificate will be awarded to each of the nine category winners with the runners-up receiving AU$500 plus a certificate.

Whether you are a regular APOY entrant or have never entered before, now is your chance to submit an image and see if you can win one of Canon’s flagship cameras.

We’re looking for original, imaginative and technically well-executed images that explore the theme in an exciting way. We have included a table outlining the themes for each round, plus the closing dates and the issues in which the results will appear. In the first issue and online every month we will publish a brief explaining the criteria for that round.

Our judges will narrow down the images to a shortlist of 50, and will look again at the images and award points for creativity, technical excellence and how far the image fulfils the brief. The three images with the most points will win the top three prizes for that round. The top 30 highest scoring images will be published in the magazine at the end of the month and the scores from the top 50 finalists will be added to our league table. The names of the top 50 finalists and their points scores will be posted on our website after each round. The person with the most points after the final round will be crowned Amateur Photographer of the Year 2011 and win £5,000 worth of Canon equipment.

Photographers Focus Lens on Shot at Publication in National Geographic, $10,000 Prize
Global National Geographic Photography Contest Now Accepting Entries

WASHINGTON (Sept. 21, 2010)—National Geographic invites photographers from around the world to enter the 2010 National Geographic Photography Contest. The grand-prize winner of the global contest will receive $10,000 (USD) — the first monetary prize ever offered by National Geographic magazine for a photo contest — and the photographer’s winning image will be published in worldwide editions of National Geographic magazine. Open to both professional photographers and amateur photo enthusiasts, the grand-prize winner also will receive a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2011.

Entrants of all skill levels can now visit www.ngphotocontest.com to submit photographs across three categories: People, Places and Nature. Entry fee is $15 (USD) per photo, and there is no limit on the number of submissions per entrant. Entries must be in digital format and submitted electronically. The contest ends Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Online photo galleries featuring top submissions received to date in each category will be updated weekly on the contest’s home page. Using National Geographic’s Voting Machine, Web users can vote for their favorite entries, and a Viewers’ Choice winner will be selected. In addition, users can download wallpapers and complete jigsaw puzzles featuring contest entries.

“National Geographic magazine reflects life on our planet in a universal language that unveils the world like no other — photography,” said Kurt Mutchler, National Geographic magazine’s executive editor of photography. “Many photographers dream of publication in National Geographic magazine. We’re therefore thrilled to invite a global audience to this year’s photo competition who can turn that dream into a reality.”

Judged on creativity and photographic quality, one first-place winner will be selected in each category by a panel of experts. From the three category winners, the overall global grand-prize winner will be selected. The contest judges are natural history photographer Joel Sartore (“Rare: Portraits of America’s Endangered Species”); landscape photographer Len Jenshel; and National Geographic magazine senior photo editor Sadie Quarrier. The judges will announce the global grand-prize winner in December 2010.

Entry into the 2010 National Geographic Photography Contest began Thursday, Sept. 16, and ends Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, 9:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into the contest. While entries must be in digital format and submitted electronically, photographs need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies or photographic prints are acceptable. A fenntartható mezőgazdaság mellett elkötelezett Syngenta a fotópályázattal a növények sokszínűségére szeretné felhívni az emberek figyelmét, amelyre ha nem vigyázunk kellőképpen, akkor eredeti szépségében hamarosan már csak fényképeken lesz látható. A pályázat idei témáját a vállalat közelgő 10. születésnapja ihlette: „A növényben rejlő lehetőségek valósággá válnak”.

„Ebben az üzletágban a növények forma gazdagsága, sokfélesége mind mezőgazdasági, mind pedig üzleti szempontból központi jelentőségű, és a fotózás egy olyan ideális közvetítő eszköz, amellyel ezt a sokszínűséget kiválóan meg lehet ragadni.” – mondta el Timár András marketing igazgató a pályázat kapcsán.

A pályázatok benyújtásának határideje 2010. június 20. A nyerteseket egy külsős és belsős szakemberekből álló zsűri választja ki, amelynek tagja többek között a neves fényképész, Marcus Lyon és a Syngenta vezérigazgatója, Mike Mack. A legkiemelkedőbb fotókat – három nyertes lesz a Syngentán belüli pályázók és három a külsős pályázók közül – Canon felszerelésekre váltható utalványokkal díjazzák.

A korábbi évek során két magyar pályázót is díjaztak. Az egyik közülük Máté Endre, aki már 7 éve dolgozik a cégnél és „Földünk megóvása” kategóriában beadott fotója nyerte el a zsűri tetszését.

„A fotózás iránti szenvedélyemet a Syngentánál fedeztem fel, ahol mint kísérleti csoportvezető dolgozom a kutatási és fejlesztési részlegen. Munkámból kifolyólag rengeteg fotót készítek; célom, hogy képeimmel mindazt a tapasztalatot és tudást átadjam kollégáimnak és a termelőknek, amelyet mindennapi munkám során gyűjtök össze.” – mondta el Endre a díj kapcsán.

CREATIVE DIGITAL:
Any nature-related image or combination of images that is created and/or manipulated using digital/electronic technology (such as Adobe® Photoshop®). Let your imagination go wild! Please provide the details on all techniques used. EXCEPTION: Panoramic images created by digitally stitching two or more images together may be entered into other categories as appropriate.

ENDANGERED SPECIES:

YOUTH PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR:
An entry of up to 20 photographs may be submitted by photographers 18 years of age or younger. Each individual image in a youth submission must fit within the contest categories, without exception.

ZOOS & AQUARIUMS:
Images may include animal portraits, behavior, zookeepers working with animals, visitors (may require model release), special events, etc. All photographs must have been taken at zoos and aquariums belonging to the World Association of Zoos & Aquaria (WAZA). See the complete WAZA list at www.waza.org.

All photographs must accurately reflect the subject matter as it appeared in the viewfinder. Nothing should be added to an image, and aside from dust spots, nothing should be taken away. Normal processing of RAW image files and minor adjustments to color and contrast are acceptable, as is minimal cropping.

A kiállítás 2010. május 17. és június 10. között tekinthető majd meg a marosvásárhelyi Dr. Bernády György Művelődési Központ tetőtéri galériájában (Horea utca 6. szám).

A pályázatra a következő témakörökben lehet benevezni:

Pályázati feltételek:
1. A pályázaton részt vehet minden amatőr és hivatásos fotós, életkortól, lakóhelytől és foglalkozástól függetlenül, olyan fotókkal, amelyek a korábbi Photo Natura kiállításainkon még nem szerepeltek.

2. A pályázatra szánt fekete-fehér és színes fotókat, CD-n vagy DVD-n kell beküldeni, vagy személyesen leadni, min. 2398 x 3567 pixel méretben. (A bejutott fotókat a szervezők utólag kinagyíttatják.)

3. Interneten vagy fotópapíron beküldött képeket nem fogadunk el!

4. Egy szerző legtöbb 12 képet küldhet be.

5. A fotósorozat egy témában maximum 3 fényképből állhat. Egy szerzőtől maximum két fotósorozatot fogadunk el. A sorozatot a zsűri tagjai megbonthatják.

6. A felvételek személyiségi jogokat nem sérthetnek.

7. A beküldött fotókat szakemberekből álló zsűri válogatja ki. A legjobb felvételeket pénzjutalommal díjazzuk.
A zsűri különdíjakat is oszthat. A zsűri saját belátása szerint átcsoportosíthatja és külön díjazhatja a beküldött fotókat.

8. Csak e-mailen értesítjük a szerzőket a zsűri döntéséről. A CD/DVD-ket nem küldjük vissza a szerzőknek.

9. Nevezési díj: 10 Euro/szerző (vagy lejben, a BCR Bank napi árfolyama szerinti összeg).
